The substance misuse service user involvement project was established in 2005, commissioned by Wandsworth DAAT (Drug and Alcohol Action Team) which is made up of local authority and PCT representatives.

Jayne Ayris, the SUI Co-ordinator manages the substance misuse service user project which is multi faceted. It:
  • Facilitates and enables users of drug and alcohol services to be involved
  • Is the first point of contact for all clients and services - for information, advice and support on client and user involvement
  • Signposts to other relevant services
  • Initiates, develops, implements and administers a range of new approaches/ systems/ services that lead to meaningful service user involvement 
  • Acts in an advisory capacity to enable individual service providers to implement service user involvement in a consistent way across the borough.
  • Established, facilitates, supports and maintains borough-wide substance misuse groups.
  • Facilitates and ensures meaningful user involvement across the borough with user representation at all key groups
  • Ensures that users are involved in revising policy and delivery of treatment and aftercare services across Wandsworth.

The project organises and provides training opportunities for service users, It also refers individuals to other relevant courses.

Further user participation within the project includes conference attendance, borough-wide user group, reps sitting on strategic committees, borough-wide representatives, surveys/questionnaires/focus groups/needs assessments, consultations, reviews, audits, tender panels, workshops and interview panels.
